Sebum

Sebum is a complex blend of lipids produced and secreted by the sebaceous glands in the dermis. It reaches the skin’s surface through the pores of the pilosebaceous follicles.
Sebum combines with sweat on the skin’s surface to produce the hydrolipidic film that normally covers the epidermis to help protect against dehydration. Sebum thus provides natural lubrication for hair and body hair and actively contributes to the skin’s role as a barrier.
